Jonathan Chan received his Doctorate of Jurisprudence (J.D.) from the Boston University School of Law in 2014. He previously obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California, Irvine, graduating with Honors and recognition from Pi Sigma Alpha (the Political Science Honor Society).

Mr. Chan has advised businesses and individuals on various disputes, ranging from misappropriation of trade secrets to breaches of contract. With experience in both federal and California courts, he has worked on cases against individuals, corporate entities, and counties. He has drafted and opposed various types of pleadings, including motions for summary judgment and motions for reconsideration.

Mr. Chan also has years of experience with legal issues commonly involved in daily business operations, particularly in employment matters, real property matters, and business transactions. He has extensive experience in drafting and negotiating contracts, tailoring each contract to address each client’s needs.

While we believe that litigation should be avoided in the best interests of both parties, Mr. Chan is well-prepared to assist clients in the litigation process whenever necessary.

    U.S. Business Litigation – Trade Secrets
    Represented corporate client in California state court in an action brought against a former employee who utilized trade secrets to open a competing business. Efficiently resolved the matter, minimizing the costs for the client and attaining the client’s goal.

    Commercial Transactions
    Reviewed lease agreements for multinational bakery business and advised client on lease terms involving an innovative payment arrangement and rent structure. Drafted and negotiated provisions on lease termination and shopping plaza exclusives for a bakery business, limiting other businesses in the plaza from deriving most of their business revenue from the sale of baked goods and coffee to compete with the bakery business.

    Represented clients in employment and labor law disputes involving wage and hour issues, purported retaliation, sexual harassment, gender discrimination, and misappropriation of trade secrets. Assisted in all aspects of the litigation process, including drafting various pleadings and managing the discovery process.
