Jonathan Chan received his Doctorate of Jurisprudence (J.D.) from Boston University School of Law in 2014. He previously obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California, Irvine, graduating with Honors and was recognized by Pi Sigma Alpha (the Political Science Honor Society).

Mr. Chan has advised businesses and individuals on various disputes, ranging from misappropriation of trade secret to breach of contract. With experience in both federal and California court, he has worked on cases against individuals, corporate entities, and counties. He has drafted and opposed various types of pleadings, ranging from drafting motions for summary judgment to motions for reconsideration.

Mr. Chan also has years of experience with legal issues commonly involved in daily business operations, especially employment matters, real property matters, and business transactions. He has worked on many types of matters involving contracts, including drafting and negotiating contracts, tailoring each contract to address each of the client’s needs to avoid potential pitfalls.

While we believe that litigation should be avoided in the best interests of both parties, Mr. Chan is well-prepared to assist each client in the litigation process should it be deemed necessary.

    U.S. Business Litigation – Trade Secrets.
    Represented corporate client in California state court in an action brought against former employee who utilized trade secrets to open a competing business. Efficiently resolved the matter, minimizing the costs for the client to obtain the client’s goal.

    Commercial Transaction.
    Reviewed lease agreements for multi-national bakery business and advised client on lease terms including innovative payment arrangement and rent structure. Drafted and negotiated provisions on lease termination and shopping plaza exclusives, limiting other businesses in the plaza from deriving most of their business revenue from the sale of baked goods and coffee to compete with the bakery business.

    U.S. Business Litigation – Employment.
    Represented clients in employment and labor law disputes involving wage and hour issues, purported retaliation, sexual harassment, and gender discrimination, and misappropriation of trade secrets. Assisted in all aspects of the litigation process, including drafting various pleadings and the discovery process.
